Aunt Ruthies Farmhouse Favorites

Porcelain Cow Creamer "Is this not the cutest little cow? If you're a farmgirl for-reals or just one at heart, how sweet would it be to set this little moo-cow on your kitchen table alongside a mason jar of fresh daisies? Why not make the little things you do in your life extra special...fill'er up with milk or cream to pour into your cup of tea or coffee when you are enjoying some girl-talk-time with a friend? I have a couple of these that I've used to decorate my fireplace mantle and a shelf in my kitchen. I think it's "udderly" adorable! Heehee!"

Flat Glassine Wax Paper Bags "I love using these little old-fashioned wax paper bags to fill with treats for special occasions. Use them for party favors, perfect for picnics, you can even use them as a sleeve for invitations or handmade cards. Trim the edge with fancy scrap-booking scissors, add a label or sticker on the front to make them even cuter...they also look sweet tied with red and white Baker's Twine with a hang tag! Fill these food-safe bags with cookies, pretzels, nuts, candies, cherries, hand pies or small gifts! These are great to have on hand...there are so many fun uses with these darlin' bags!"

- Aunt Ruthie

Ceramic Egg Rack "This has been such a delightful addition to my kitchen utensils! When I'm baking, I gather my eggs and nestle them in this adorable Egg holder. I never have to worry about the eggs rolling off the counter and making a messy "splat" on the floor! I've also used this crate, from time to time, to hold hard-boiled eggs in the fridge, that way I can keep them separated from the uncooked ones. Having something so simple, cute and practical, like this sweet egg rack, sure makes whipping up yummy things for my family so much more enjoyable!"

- Aunt Ruthie

The Modern-Day Pioneer "You know what gals? I'm always on the look-out for books that inspire vintage homemaking...and well, this one is the cream-of-the-crop! This book is jam-packed with pioneer secrets for simple and frugal living from gardening to canning, bread baking, stocking your pantry, candle-making, quilting, mending, soap-making, and so much more. There are recipes such as Amish White Bread, Bread and Butter Pickles and Blackberry Stew with Sweet Biscuits (Yes please!) It's a celebration of simple, forgotten joys for today's busy world. A fun book to curl up with!"

Rural Free: A Farmwife's Almanac of Country Living "Like cool refreshing water dipped from a well, this book quenches the thirst for living life down on the farm. Beautifully penned by Rachel Penden back in the 1960's, she reveals the "daily joys of family life on an Indiana farm". Rachel takes you on a nostalgic journey through a year of seasons. During the autumn harvest, canning kept a farmwife busy..."Sing of women making grape jelly...of the filled glasses set in a window where the light can shine through and show the beauty thereof." In the frost of winter..."Snow ice cream was a country luxury in the old-fashioned days, and it still is..." The joys of spring delighted her heart... "Sheets on the clothesline this morning flap in mighty applause". She found sweetness in blessing her husband in the summertime..."In the afternoon, having baked a batch of sour cream cookies, I took some and a jug of ice water back to the north side of the farm, where Dick was harrowing corn...". This book is as sweet as homemade pie."

- Aunt Ruthie

Ceramic Egg Rack "I have two of these! Besides the adorable name, this sturdy fork is wonderful for blending dry ingredients, whisking eggs, sauteing veggies or meat, lifting potatoes out of boiling water, tossing fruit, sugar and cornstarch for pies, making gravy, mixing batter and is a handy serving utensil. The handle is very comfortable and the fork tines are sturdy. Every gal needs one to mix up a batch of farmy-fixin's for her family just like granny!"

- Aunt Ruthie

Yall Come Eat by the Deen Brothers "If y'all love Miss Paula Deen, you are gonna flip for her son's (Bobby and Jamie) cookbook! There are tons of photos, stories and the best part...southern-style recipes such as their refreshing Chopped Chef's Salad with Homemade Brown Bread Croutons and Ultra Creamy Mac and Cheese Casserole...and wait until you try their Peaches and Cream muffins...woo weee! That's some good eatin' right there! I"ve gotta go, I'm gettin' hungry!"

I love the fresh cottage design and adorable sitckers!"

Pyrex Accents Bakeware 9 1/2 Inch Pie Plate "I want to recommend to you my favorite kind of pan to bake in, the Pyrex Pie Plate! I prefer to use a glass pan (or pie plate) with handles. I like to be able to see through to the crust, to see if it's got that golden brown color that I like. It makes it so much easier to pull the pie in and out of the oven and of course to carry and serve it at the table."

- Aunt Ruthie

13 1/2 inch Lodge Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Pan "This is my all time favorite pan to cook with. Somehow the food tastes better and I love the even heat it produces while cooking. The other thing I love is that you can take it right to the table if you are having a casual- rustic dinner like tacos or Hillbilly Spaghetti Pie...it keeps the food hot for a long time and the extra handle on the end makes it so much easier to pick up and carry. This pan is ready to cook in, no pre-seasoning required. Grilled cheese sandwiches come out crunchy on the outside and gooey-cheese-y on the inside!"

- Aunt Ruthie

10 inch Lodge Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Pan "This 10 inch pan is just perfect for baking up a batch of good ol' southern cornbread! For perfect cornbread you start by oiling the pan with vegatable oil, set it on the stove, at medium temp, until hot, then pour the cornbread batter in. Immediately put the pan in a preheated 400 degree oven to bake (about 20 minutes or per your recipe instructions). By putting the batter in a hot pan you insure a crusty outside and a fluffy inside! Have that honey-butter ready!"

The Messies Manual by Sandra Felton "Girls, out of all of the books on getting your home organized, this is one of my favorites! The subtitble reads: A complete guide to bringing order and beauty to your home. Author Sandra Felton has an easy, practical and humorous writing style, it's almost like listening to a girlfriend chatting on the phone! She talks about procrastination, goal setting and organizing without being overwhelming. Sandra is also an author that does not promote perfection, (life is too short to try to be perfect!) and yet she does not forfeit excellance. She'll give you a little kick-start to make your dream of a clean and tidy home are dream come true!"

- Aunt Ruthie

Cornbread Stick Cast Iron Pan "How adorable are cornbread sticks that look like ears of corn? Talk about farmhouse style! Besides being so cute, the corn-sticks are yummy if you like crunchy and chewy cornbread. I have two pans in order to have plenty to go around. This pan is not pre-seasoned, but it does comes with instructions which amounts to oiling the pan and putting it in a hot oven for an hour or so. Once seasoned, you want to be sure to pre-heat the oiled pan in the oven until hot before you pour in the batter to achieve a nice crust. It also helps to pour the batter from a pitcher to fill the pan. The more you use it the more non-stick it will become. This corny-styled pan is over 100 years old! Perfect for a farmhouse supper!"

God Thinks You're Wonderful by Max Lucado "This is an "Oh, honey!" book! That's what I say when I see something too adorable! Oh, honey!! It's a sweet tiny book with a huge message. It's all about how God loves us. Here is a short sample: God is fond of you...If he had a wallet, your photo would be in it...if he had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it....He can live anywhere in the universe and he chose your heart....face it friend, He's crazy about you." The illustrations are as sweet as baby's breath. There is a hug on every page! It is full of wonderfulness, perfect to read to your kids or to give to someone, of any age, in need of a lot of love."

- Aunt Ruthie

Flame Red and White Checkers Tablecloth "Nothing says "Down-home" like a red and white checked tablecloth! I love this one because it's square and will fit any size table when you lay it in the center, on top of a full size white tablecloth, to add a punch of countrified color. This 52 X 52 size is also perfect for lining a picnic basket. Somehow farmhouse fixin's seem to taste better on a red checked tablecloth!"

- Aunt Ruthie
