Note: Check with your veterinarian before making any changes to your pet’s diet.   Also, please be aware of any allergies your pet may have to specific ingredients and avoid ingredients which have caused reactions in your pets in the past.   If you are unsure about a specific ingredient found in one of our recipes, introduce the food to your pets in small amounts first.

Ingredients:

2 1/2 pounds chicken thighs (skinless and boneless)
1 carrot, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup (frozen) green beans
1 apple (peeled, cored, and coarsely chopped)
1/2 cup peas (no salt added)

Directions:

Rinse chicken, place in a large pot and cover with water. Add a steam basket to the top of the pot and add carrot slices, green beans, and apple pieces. Cover with a lid, bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce to a low-boil and cook until chicken is done and carrots are tender, approximately 35 minutes.

Add peas and continue cooking just until heated through, approximately 10 minutes. Allow to cool slightly then remove chicken and cut into small pieces or shred with a fork. Remove vegetables and apple pieces with a slotted spoon and add to a mixing bowl. Mash with a fork, potato masher, or mix in a food processor.

Combine chicken and vegetable mixture. Discard remaining broth. After cooled, store in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator for up to three days or freeze for later use. See freezer note below.

MAKE-AHEAD:The dog food mixture can be divided up for each day of the week and stored in individual freezer safe ziplock bags. Refrigerate or freeze until ready to use. Frozen baggies should be defrosted in the fridge overnight. The serving size will depend on the size and breed of your dog. If you’re unsure of how much to feed your dog, check with your vet first.
