The President of the Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya A J J Jammeh Babili Mansa has received the newly accredited United States Ambassador to The Gambia shortly after the ambassador presented her letter of credence to the Vice President Her Excellency Dr. Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy.

Earlier, the US Ambassador Her Excellency Carolyn Patricia Alsup told waiting reporters that for the duration of her stay in the country, she intends to strengthen the existing bilateral ties for the mutual interests of the two countries. She also informed the press corps of his country's keenness to assist the Gambia to boost health care service delivery as well as to help bring lot more tourists for the upcoming Roots Homecoming Festival in May.

“There are many opportunities to further cement the ties between the US and The Gambia and I am hoping to be able to search for lot more US tourists. I will be working with various ministries to find out where their greatest needs are and work together to improve performance”, the top US diplomat said.

The new ambassador conveyed so thrill that His Excellency President Jammeh has made very strong statements against violence and terrorism. “Surely we will look for ways to work together.”

She described the Gambian leader's declaration on the prohibition on Female Genital Mutilation as one of the greatest steps taken by the Head of State in a bid to empower women. The US diplomat expressed hope that the legislature will work very quickly on the legislation. “It says lot about The Gambia and the people of The Gambia and the wiliness to move forward,” she concluded.

The presentation of credentials followed two more by the Ambassadors of the State of Palestine and Kingdom of Denmark to the Vice President Dr. Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy.

Speaking to reporters soon afterwards, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine, His Excellency Safwat Ibraghith, who is based in Senegal, promised to further ties with The Gambia in the areas of human resources in different sectors especially economy and agriculture.

Ambassador Ibraghith extended a happy new year with lot of progress and stability for the brotherly Gambian people and expressed thankfulness for the historic and constant supporting positions of the Gambia resulting from long time solidarity and brotherly linked between Palestine and The Gambia.

“So nothing has been changed indeed but we hope to renew the image as I told Her Excellency the Vice President that am here to show that Palestine could be useful to The Gambia.

He expressed goodwill message from the President of the Palestine Liberation Organisation His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas to his Gambian counterpart through Vice President Njie-Saidy.

The very last diploma to present her letters of credence to the Vice President was the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Her Excellency Winnie Estrup Patersen.

Ambassador Patersen expressed great honour and pleasure to be received by the Vice President and described Banjul-Copenhagen relations as excellent. She further pledged to nurture the existing bilateral ties in the areas of tourism. She said she will do everything possible to enhance the strong existing relation between The Gambia and Denmark.

Based in Mali, Ambassador Patersen recalled the 2012, 2013, 2014 crisis in Mali, underlining her country's contribution in restoring peace and stability in that country. “Because instability, violence have consequences beyond Mali,” she said.
