The 2005 Turbo S is the pinnacle of the the 996 Turbo lineup. 2005 was the official end of production for the 996 body style. Prior to 2005, Porsche had not offered a Turbo S. In 2005 only 186 Turbo S coupes were built for the US market. Even more limited were Turbo S coupes with a 6-speed gearbox. The Turbo S came standard with the X50 Performance Engine Package that produced 450hp. It also came standard with Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB), Full Leather Interior, and Premium Sound. With a window sticker price of just under 0,000.00, the Turbo S was the Flagship Turbo for the 996 lineup.
This car was sold new in Florida and eventually made its way to Ohio and then Kentucky. It has had a healthy accident free life with 5 previous owners. It is primarily stock with the exception of lowering springs, a sport exhaust with headers, GT2 style stage 2 clutch, updated diverter valves, and a computer tune. The car was dynoed at just over 500hp. These are very moderate modifications for the M96/70S engine. These engines are capable of well over 750hp with stock internals. The car maintains a very stock appearance and the factory XCE aero kit provides an aggressive look. All of the systems on the car work great and operate as they should. The car is very quick and the ceramic brakes offer more than adequate stopping power. The car has recently had fluids/filters and brand new tires. The seller provides the highlights of this Turbo, but we should reiterate certain aspects. The Turbo S effectively was the special version of the Turbo quite a few owners had been trying to create through Porsche’s options packages. It took the standard 996TT and added the X50 performance package and optional ceramic composite brakes to produce the top of the line Turbo available at the time (excepting the GT2, of course). The S only was available in 2005. For reasons I’ve never quite understood the vast majority of them were Cabriolets. Many of those were equipped with the Tiptronic S transmission rather than a manual. Thus, a Turbo S coupe with 6-speed is quite a rare thing. This particular one has a few modifications as well – mostly in the name of extra performance – so you’ll definitely want to be extra thorough in your mechanical appraisal of it. But those modifications shouldn’t detract much from the car. For some, they may even enhance it’s desirability.
Though it is a rare find, especially equipped with the Turbo Aerokit, I’m not sure I’d seek out this Turbo S with an eye on its collectability. The Turbo S itself likely does have collector appeal, but I think the mileage on this one already is high enough that appeal will be limited. The added modifications further limit it. That just means it can continue to be enjoyed and presuming it’s kept in good condition I don’t suspect it’s going to lose much, if any, value over the coming years even if more miles are added. So while perhaps not a candidate to show a tremendous increase in value, it should hold its value and for a current buyer hoping to enjoy the best of what the 996 has to offer that in itself is a very fine thing.
