Trend Report: Clogs
An unlikely trend has been making its way back onto the fashion map this spring: a great pair of leather clogs. Love them or hate them, they are becoming impossible to miss, with fashion-forward celebrities like Rachel Bilson and Alexa Chung giving them a try.
As with many trends, the man responsible is none other than Karl Lagerfeld; Chanel’s Spring 2010 runway show featured a bevy of models in clogs of varying colors (far left). With celebrities and models leading the way, clogs have since become the must-have footwear of the season.
For you, the options are endless. While clogs were a staple back in the hippie era, the modern version is less bohemian and more rock & roll. We suggest pairing your clogs with detailed minidresses and skinny jeans for a fresh take, as many of our celebrity muses have done. With that, we present you with April’s edition of our Trend Report.
Polish model Magdalena Frackowiak (far left) was recently spotted in a pair of black clogs, pairing them with a denim miniskirt and a chunky sweater and coat. For a similar look, try a pair of Jeffrey Campbell’s Charli Platform Clogs (8) with Vintage Havana’s ().
Last month, Ashlee Simpson (second from left) went for a low-key look, pairing black clogs with skinny jeans and a loose tee. The overall effect? On-trend yet casual. Grab Blank Denim’s () and Madigan’s () and then add a pair of Diane Von Furstenberg’s (5).
Earlier this year, Alexa Chung (middle) was one of the first to try out the clog trend. She paired a detailed white minidress with brown clogs, and then added her usual quirky spin by throwing on grey knit tights. Start your outfit off with Yumi’s (.02) and then add UO’s Opaque Tights (). Finish off the look with these Tamara Zip Clogs (0) by Cynthia Vincent or, for something a little different, try these (5) by Elizabeth & James.
Our final dose of inspiration comes from Rachel Bilson, a girl who can spot a trend before it becomes popular. Rachel looks on-point with a pair of boyfriend jeans and a cropped blazer. The Swedish Clog by Swedish Hasbeens (8) is a stylish way to start off your outfit. Pair them with Current/Elliott’s (9) and then finish it off with Topshop’s (0).
